What is a PEO?
A professional employer organization, commonly called a PEO, is a business-services model that can help an employer administer selected human-resources responsibilities. Depending on the provider and agreement, this may involve payroll, onboarding, employee records, benefits administration, HR guidance, workers’ compensation coordination, and compliance support.
The exact legal relationship and division of responsibility matter. Some PEO arrangements involve co-employment; other HR administrative or payroll-support arrangements do not. Employers should understand the written agreement, applicable registrations or certifications, insurance responsibilities, data handling, fees, and which party controls each employment decision.
